Galle RFC clinch emerging Club Rugby Sevens title by Farook Lantra Galle Rugby Football club clinched the Cup Championship of the Singer Sri Lanka Emerging Club Rugby Sevens Tournament by beating Tri Star Sports Club by 21 points to 5 in the final played at St. Aloysius College Grounds, Galle on January 20. Ruhunu RFC bagged the Plate Championship by overcoming Polgolla RFC by 26 points to 7 in the final while the Bowl Championship was won by Old Aloysians who routed Ratnaprua 'B' by 24 points to nil. The Ladies Tournament was won by Kelani Valley who overcame Kandy SC by 21 points to 5. T.B. Amendra of Galle RFC was adjudged the Best Emerging Player of the Cup Championship final while Lakmal Jayawardena of Ruhunu RFC was picked the Best Emerging Player of the Plate final. Tyronne Nishantha of Old Aloysians was adjudged Best Emerging player of the bowl final. 27 newly formed rugby teams took part in this tournament along with two women's rugby teams. The Merchandising and Promotions Manager of Singer Sri Lanka Sanjay Karunaratne was the chief guest while the guests of honour were former Mayor of Galle Lionel Premasiri and Chairman of Rugby Development Committee Arjun Dahrmadasa. |
