by Traincomalee correspondent

The slaying of Kumar Ponnambalam leader of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress was a plot to still his independent and courageous voice which echoed the sufferings of the Tamil people and the injustice caused to the Tamil community not only in this country but also internationally, said TULF Secretary General and the Tamil National Alliance Parliamentary Group leader R. Sampanthan addressing the second death anniversary meeting held at the Trincomalee Town Hall on Sunday.

He added that had the late Kumar Ponnambalam been alive today he could made valuable contribution to the settlement of the Tamil national question.

UNP MP for Trincomalee District M.A. Maharoof Mohomed said leaders are born and they are identified by their actions. Late Kumar Ponnambalam was one among them.

He appealed to the people to be confident about the peace moves initiated by the present government which came to power on a mandate to find peace in the country.

General Secretary All Ceylon Tamil Congress N. Kumarakuruparan, Secretary All Ceylon Tamil Teachers Union T. Mahasivam and several others also spoke. This meeting was organised by the Trincoamele branch of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress.
