by Ravi Ladduwahetty Deregulation and more privatisation are the priorities of the UNF Government in its economic agenda for 2002, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has told his Cabinet Ministers last night. Premier Wickremesinghe has told Ministers that the aim of the Government is to achieve a growth target of 4.5 per cent for 2002, over the dismal -0.6 per cent last year, authoritative political sources told the Daily News last night. According to these sources, the strategy will be to increase revenue and curtail spending aimed at a growth rate which will be the turnaround so that it will make 2003 a year of consolidation, the Premier has said. The restructuring and liberalisation of the CEB, the Petroleum Corporation and the CWE are also among the priority list discussed at the meeting. Treasury Secretary Charitha Ratwatte gave a presentation on the state of the economy. The meeting was short and lasted only an hour, the sources added. |
