A Challenging job, says Thilanga By Shirajiv Sirimane The former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) Tilanga Sumathipala has been appointed as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom. He will assume duties today. Mr. Sumathipala, who is also a director of Sumathi Group and holds top positions in several other companies said that his new job is a challenging one since this is the first time he is holding public office. "The experience I gained as the President of the BCCSL, specially dealing with contracts relating to TV rights and sponsorship matters will be a great asset to my new job," he told the Daily News. "The world is changing fast and the telecom and IT industry too is moving at a rapid growth. Therefore, my main focus will be towards the development of infrastructure facilities to the IT industry," he said. "Any way it is too early to comment on my exact future plans which I have to first discuss with my Minister," he said. The mentor behind Sri Lanka's latest international Cricket venue, the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Mr. Sumathipala said that he has no immediate plans to be at the helm of the BCCSL again. "I have not discussed this with my members as yet. Any way, the BCCSL Presidency is a part time job," he said. |
