Schoolboy Jeevan Mendis to make first-class debut Pradeep Hewage will lead a Board XI team comprising tested and tried Test cricketers and fringe players in a three-day match against the touring Zimbabwe cricketers commencing at the Sara Stadium today. The side is not short of experience including as many as four Test players - Ravindra Pushpakumara, Prasanna Jayawardene, Rangana Herath and Malinga Bandara and, two who have appeared in one-day internationals Chamara Silva and Prabath Nissanka. The most notable selection is that of Jeevan Mendis, the Thomian left-hander who toured Pakistan recently with the Sri Lanka under 19 side. Mendis has appeared for CCC in the under 23 tournament and has yet to play in a first-class match. This match will be Zimbabwe only first-class practice match before they take on Sri Lanka in a three -Test series starting on December 27 at the SSC.
