by Uditha Kumarasinghe A new board of directors will be appointed to the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) within a few days. The former board of directors of the NYSC has voluntarily resigned, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Johnston Fernando told the Daily News yesterday. He said the NYSC has deteriorated due to mismanagement. Immediate steps will be taken to restructure the institution. The Minister said: " During a recent surprise visit to the NYSC, I saw the state the buildings. Most other activities of the NYSC are not being done properly." The youth following NYSC training courses pay a large amount of money. In future, an opportunity will be provided to youth to follow NYSC training courses free of charge. " The objective of the new Government is to transform the NYSC into a more reputed institution which plays a leading role to cater to the younger generation," he said. A job bank will be established at the NYSC shortly to guide youth on existing job opportunities, the Minister added. The Minister also thanked the former board of directors who voluntarily resigned for their services to the institute. |
