By Manjula Fernando News should be reported without bias and malice so that readers have access to the truth and Lake House will ensure this right in the future," the new Managing Director of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) Sepala Perera said. He was addressing Lake House workers after assuming duties yesterday. "Lake House is still the leading newspaper company. Your cooperation is vital to maintain this position in the future too," he said. Mr. Perera said during 20 years as a lawyer, he had represented labour unions and workers fighting for their rights. Therefore, he was conversant with these rights. He vowed not to restrict trade union activities within the company. Nevertheless, he requested all workers to give priority to the interests of the organisation over theirs. "All are free to have different political views and be members of any union. I hope everyone will respect this right. But, I earnestly request all of you to put the company before anything else," he said. He said his door will be open to all workers at any time to discuss their problems. Outgoing Managing Director S.M.S. Jayasiri said the former director board resigned on Wednesday evening to let the new government appoint a board of directors in accordance with company custom. The Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) Secretary Sunil Sendanayake said they set an example to other institutions by evading political violence within the institution. "We managed to maintain discipline and law and order in every section of the institution, including a the editorial departments with the coordination of Mr. N. M. Ameen," he said. |
