Top priority to settle war

by Matara Central correspondent

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is seeking cooperation of India and other countries to settle the issues raised by LTTE. If their issues are fairly and reasonably settled, we are confident that they will drop their demand for a separate state, said Minister for Fisheries and Ocean Resources and Deputy Minister for Southern Development Mahinda Wijesekara when he addressed a series of meetings held at Gabadaweediya, Walpola, Uyanwatta and several other places in the Town of Matara to thank the UNF activists and voters for extending their wholehearted support for his victory and that of UNF in the district of Matara.

Minister Mahinda Wijesekara said, when conflagrations of an internal war are on, no country could be developed. Therefore, the new government will give top priority to settle this war.

Victory over the PA in the district of Matara amidst threats is a remarkable achievement of unbiased voters. A harbour is a great need for the people of Ruhuna as that would gain economic prosperity, plus employment for the people of the area. A large number of educated youth in the district of Matara are unemployed. A scheme has been drawn up to provide them with employment. At least, three in the area of each polling centre covering every electorate will be provided with jobs before the dawn of next Sinhala New Year. People's Alliance did not have a proper plan to develop the country. But the present government headed by Ranil Wickremesinghe has a clear vision for development.

We must now shed party differences to develop the country. Yet another group from the PA is awaiting to join the present government. That is the only way in which the solutions to national problems could be achieved.
