PA will get a clear cut majority - Anunayake Thera

by L. B. Wijayasiri and Kandy District Group correspondent

Most Ven. Galagama Atthadassi Anunayake Thera of the Asigiriya Maha Vihara Chapter observed, when Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake called on the Mahanayake Thera of the Chapter, 12th, that the people of this country would accept the programme of work of the People's Alliance to ensure an undivided Sri Lanka and that Party would be given a clear majority.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake called on Most Ven. Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter and thereafter called on Most Ven. Udugama Sri Rathanapala Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Maha Vihara Chapter, and received their blessings.

Most Ven. Galagama Atthadassi Anunayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter also associated with the Mahanayake Thera of that Chapter when the Prime Minister had an exchange of views with the prelates.

"PA would get a clear-cut majority at the forthcoming elections, because it was that Party who had given an assurance that a division of country would be prevented, and its integrity protected." added Most Ven. Anunayake Thera. The Prime Minister should take steps to ensure a free and fair election. Political Parties, instead of criticising others, should give priority to make the country know what they were going to do.

Most Ven. Atthadassi Anunayake Thera added that it was the duty of all political parties, by the nation, to create an undivided country. I wish that with the blessings of the Sri Dalada, the program of work of the Peoples Alliance and by you as the Prime Minister would be a success.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake told Mahanayake Theras that one person in the North took the decisions on which way they (leaders of the government) should move on and at which places they should stop. "He also decides at what time we should end our lives. It was he who decided as to what we should do and what decisions we should take. We should not keep room for that and we should have the liberty to express our views freely and independently."

Both Mahanayake Theras stressed the need to conduct the election campaign reasonably and in keeping with the law free from violent activities.

The Maha Sangha headed by Mahanayake Theras chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the Prime Minister.
