Case against Reggie Ranatunga Witness admits he was pressurised to implicate Reggie

Jayantha Jayasuriya, a 23 year old resident of Udugampola testifying before the Gampaha Magistrate yesterday said that he was pressurised by the UNP to provide false evidence against Mr. Reggie Ranataunga in relation to the death of Lionel Rodrigo.

Jayasuriya told Gampaha Magistrate M.A. Mohideen that a group of around fifteen lawyers swarmed him and said;" brother, please say that Mr. Reggie Ranatunga was on this occasion.We will look after you."

He also confessed that he gave false evidence at the post mortem due to persuasion from the UNP members.

He also confirmed that he told untruths and that Mr. Ranatunga was not present at the time of the incident.

Jayasuriya further said; " I gave false evidence at the post mortem due to the persuasion from the UNP. I was working for Mr. Mahen Gunasekera, a UNP candidate for the Gampaha district.Mr. Gunasekera kept me in hiding in various places.
