He said so addressing a ceremony to distribute certificates to Police
and combined forces personnel who successfully completed Tamil and
English language courses at Rantambe Training Centre, NCC Head Office,
Pamankada.
In addition to training student cadets, the NCC has commenced courses
including psychology programmes and various vocational training courses
for troops attached to the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police with the
assistance of the Commanders of the three forces and IGP, he added.
"English and Tamil language courses offered to combined forces and
Police will help improve inter-personnel relationship and language
skills," Major General Jayasindara said. "Sri Lanka was freed of
terrorism due to the commitment of the combined forces and Police
although there were issues among them during the conflict due to
language barriers," Jayasundara said.
The NCC had organized these Tamil and English Language courses for
the combined forces and Police in collaboration with the Official
Languages Department on Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's concept.
The Defence Secretary's aim is to develop the country through
discipline. These courses help officers gain knowledge of the country's
laws.
They help to create good understanding between these personnel,
Jayasundara said.
He said as a developing nation, the defence sector is vested with a
great responsibility to protect peace and maintain law and order.
"All officers in the combined forces and the Police must work
together to fulfill the country's development goals," he said.
Officers attached to the three forces were present on the occasion.
