A treat for Indian dance lovers



One of the dance items

Mohiniyattam danseuse of India Dr KanakRele accompanied by the Nalanda troupe will perform at the Lionel Wendt Auditorium, Colombo on August 15 from 6.15pm as part of the 66th Independence Day celebrations of India.

Human Resources Minister D E W Gunasekera will be the Chief Guest while Indian High Commissioner Ashok K Kantha will preside.

The troupe will also perform at the Singapore Hall, Hambantota on August 17 and the Hindu Cultural Hall, Kandy on August 19.

Dr. KanakRelewill also deliver a lecture cum demonstration at the University of Visual and Performing Arts. The troupe will also performing excerpts from the dance-drama The Enlightened One - Gautam Buddha that highlights the great tapas (penance) that Prince Siddhartha eventually undertakes to arrive at the Truth (Satta).

The dance-drama The Enlightened One- Gautam Buddha will also be a prelude to the exposition of Sacred Kapilvastu Relics in Sri Lanka from August 19 to September 5.

The troupe's visit is sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi in association with the Cultural Affairs and Arts Ministry and Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin.
