Tamil Buddhist Association in Jaffna promotes ethnic harmony

The Tamil Buddhists Association of Jaffna distributed dress material
to 100 schoolchildren of low income families in the area .This was with
the aim of promoting religious harmony between Hindus and Buddhists in
the area .
This function was held at the Jaffna Uduvil, Murungamurthi Vidyalam.
The programme was held under the patronage of Jaffna Naga Vihara Temple
Chief Incumbent Ven Megahajanthure Wimala Thera.
The ceremony was conducted by Tamil Buddhists Association President A
Ravi Kumar. Tamil Buddhists’ Association President A Ravi Kumar said,
more such activities will be conducted towards developing peace and
harmony between ethnic groups.
In the near future the Tamil Buddhists Association will establish
numerous branches in the Northern Province. Ven Megahajanthure Wimala
Thera said that in the near future the measures will be taken to spread
Dhamma education in the North. Colonel Amarasinghe of the 513 division
said, the Army is taking every step to prtomote and uplift the welafare
of the people in Jaffna . Civilians too are showing keenness and
enthusiasm to work with the Army.
Ven Megahajanthure Wimala Thera donated Rs 10,000 to a girl from a
low income family named Arunagiri Nayagam Puhalini. The dress material
were donated by Ven Neluvakande Ganarathana Thera (Lecturer of Kalani
National Education Centre) Ven. Nedagamuwe Panghaseela Thera ( From
America) and Ven. Kumburugamuve Vajira Thera (the Chancellor of the
Sabaragamuva University.
