CSD job boon for ex-LTTEers
Over 1,800 rehabilitated ex-LTTE cadres turned up
at Kilinochchi on Saturday to join the Civil Security Department (CSD)
following the CSD’s call for ex-combatants to join its ranks. The
government is planning to recruit a large number of rehabilitated
ex-LTTE cadres to the CSD. They are slated to take part in
development activities in the North. CSD Chief Rear Admiral Ananda
Peiris said over1,800 ex-LTTE combatants from the Northern Province
turned up to collect applications to join his department. “We

Over Rs10m Babul seized at BIA
The Customs Narcotics Control Unit seized over
75 kilogrammes of tobacco based intoxicant - Babul Hans, worth over
Rs 10 million, at the Bandaranaike International Airport on
Saturday. Deputy Customs Superintendent D D S C Michael said the
babul was hidden in five bags.

Former DGHS, SL Navy passes away
Surgeon Rear Admiral Nandana Athulugama VSV, USP,
MBBS (Cey), MD (Radiology), MCMA, who served in the regular force of
Sri Lanka Navy for 25 years from October 1, 1979 to September 25,
2005 and rose up to the highest chair of Director General Health
Services at Naval headquarters, passed away peacefully after a brief
illness on June 23, 2012.

Three deminers injured
The police said three deminers attached to a
Non-Governmental Organization named Halo Trust were injured in a
mine explosion on Saturday in the Jaffna Peninsula. According to the
Police Media Unit, a explosion occured during a mine clearing
operation in Muhamalai, injuring three de-miners of the Halo Trust,
a NGO which has been actively involved in mine clearance in the
Northern and Eastern Provinces.
