First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa donated
much needed diathermy surgical equipment costing Rs 1

Bristol Street in Fort Colombo was
renamed as Sir Razik Fareed Mawatha at a ceremony held under
the patronage of Prime Minister D M Jayaratne on Monday.

Construction programmes of SAARC
Cultural Centre costing Rs 831 million commenced at Matara

Parks for wild elephants
Priyanka KURUGALA
The Agrarian Services and Wildlife Ministry will
build two conservation parks in Horowpathana and Weheragala in 3,000
acres costing Rs 300 million for wild elephants, said Minister S M
Chandrasena Monday. The projects aim to prevent the conflict between
humans and elephants.
Allowance for disabled families
S.M. Wijayaratne
The government will offer a Rs 3,000 monthly
allowance to disabled families.
Social Services Minister Felix Perera has instructed
in this regard and 35 families will be selected. Rs.405 million
rupees has been allocated for this .
Series of Dhammadesana
A series of Dhammadesana is being held at the
Katukurunda Walukarama Maha Viharaya, Koralawella from May 3 to 18
as part of a pinkama to mark the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi.
The program will conclude with a ‘Upahara’ perahera on May 18 night.
The inaugural ceremony was held on May 3 (yesterday) at 4 pm
attended by Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga and several
other Parliamentarians.
LLRC sittings
The Lesson Learnt and Reconciliation Commission
(LLRC) decided to call an expert, Dr. Chatura de Silva, Senior
Lecturer Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University
of Moratwua to provide expert opinion on Chanel 4 Video. The LLRC
Chairman invited Dr de Silva by Letter on April 20.
Dr. Chatura de Silva has agreed to provide expert
opinion on the same at a public sitting to be held today at 3.30 p.m
at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and
Strategic Studies.
Dr. Chatura de Silva is also the Director of the
Centre for Instructional Technology at Moratwua University.
3000th Novena of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
The Perpetual Novena of the Mother of Perpetual Help
which began on December 8, 1951 continues at All Saints’ Church,
Borella.
It has now reached a climax and the 3000th Novena
will be held on July 6, 2011 at All Saints’ Church. Holy Mass at 6
p.m on that day will be celebrated by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal
Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo. The launching of the Website in
connection with this celebration will take place on May 4 at 5 pm at
All Saints’ Church, Borella.
Prize giving ceremony
The 14th annual prize giving ceremony of the Kottawa
Dharmapala Vidyalaya will be held in the National Youth Service
Council in Maharagama on May 6 at 1.30 pm. Water Supply and Drainage
Minister Dinesh Gunawardene will be Chief Guest of the ceremony.
Western Province Education Director P.N. Ailapperuma and Zonal
Education Director O.M.V.P. Mudalige will also participated in the
ceremony.
Blood donation
The Kalutara South Police station has organized a
Blood Donation Campaign today from 9 am to 4 pm, at the Police
station premises, to commemorate the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi.
Medical and non-medical staff of the Nagoda
(Kalutara) General Hospital will participate in this meritorious
deed.
