International Down’s Syndrome Day:
Diridarupiyasa organizes series of programs
The Miranda Hemalatha Kala Ashrama, Diridarupiyasa has organized a
series of programs from January end to March 23 to commemorate the
International Down’s Syndrome Day on March 23.
This centre has organized an exhibition of handicrafts by children
with Down’s Syndrome at Diridarupiyasa, Moratuwa. They have organized
these functions to collect funds for the Diridarupiyasa Trust. They have
also planned to stage a concert at Moratuwa MJF Centre on March 23.
“We are getting ready to launch a big program to commemorate the
Down’s Syndrome Day on March 23. “We invite children with Down’s
Syndrome to join us in this program,” Diridarupiyasa Director and
veteran artiste Miranda Hemalatha told the Daily News.
Diridarupiyasa has launched many programs for children with Down’s
Syndrome to help them find jobs. The main aim of these programs is to
train them to stand on their feet and be independent.
“This centre has started a vocational training centre for children
with Down’s Syndrome. About 50 children are being trained at this centre
at present.
“We assure that there will be no discrimination what so ever. All
children will be treated equally,” she said. ”Handicrafts produced over
the past eight months by children with Down’s Syndrome will be on
display at an exhibition Diridarupiyasa plans to hold,” she said.
Hemalatha said that vacancies are available for children with Down’s
Syndrome who are over 14 years at Diridarupiyasa. The Director invites
