Help kidney patient
M.K. Vernan Ronald Rodrigo, 49, with end state kidney failure has
been recommended a kidney transplant. The expenses for anti-rejection
therapy, custodial solution and investigations have to be borne by the
patient and the cost will be around Rs 400,000.

Women’s day commemoration
A special function to commemorate International Women’s Day Organized
by not-for-profit organization, Women In Need will be held today (9) at
the Gatambe Stadium in Kandy. It will feature a variety of handicraft
stalls and a special cultural show.
Women In Need strives to promote the rights of women, with emphasis
against domestic violence and all other forms of discrimination.
Book launch
The authology of poems titled ‘Pamaavee-Aa-Wasanthaya’ written by
Mangala Seneviratne - development assistant attached to Ududhumbara
Divisional Secretariat will be launched on March 10 at 2.00 p.m. at the
AGA office auditorium. It will be presided over by the AGA W.H.M.

AGM
The Annual General Meeting and the election of office - bearers of
the Alumni Association of the Peradeniya University Colombo Chapter will
be held on March 13, (Saturday) at the Shalika Hall, Park Road, Colombo
05, commencing at 9.30 p.m.
Vice Chancellor of the Uva-Welassa University Professor Chandra
Embuldeniya will be the Chief Guest and Chairman of the Sri Lanka
Institute of Information Technology Professor Sam Karunaratna will be
the Guest of Honour.
Podi Menike gets new observation compartment
The Railway Department will introduce a new observation compartment
consisting 44 seats to the Podi Menike express train plying from Colombo
to Badulla.
Railways General Manager P.G. Wijesekera said this new compartment
will replace the existing 24 seater observation saloon.
He said these two observation compartments are being manufactured at
the Ratmalana Railways factory costing Rs One billion.
Wijesekera said these compartments will be on track before the
Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
Robbers on motorcycle disappear with Rs 1m

Two men on a motorcycle disappeared after grabbing Rs. One million
from a manager of a private filling station in Embilipitiya Town on
Saturday.
The robbery had taken place while the money was being taken by the
filling station manager to be deposited in a private bank branch in the
Embilipitiya town. |
