Contractors misuse public funds - Dr Amunugama
Contractors misuse public funds. Many of them have built houses of
their own in the Colombo suburbs, Public Administration Minister Dr.
Sarath Amunugama said.
“We should implement a transparent and effective system to overcome
this. That is the main object of Mahinda Chinthanaya - Gama Neguma
program’ too, the Minister said.
He made these views at the seminar ‘Exemplary Public Service towards
a good governance’ held at the Art Centre, Kandy.
The seminar was organized to educate the Grama Niladaris and Samurdhi
Officers in the district.
The hub of rural development is the village. Most of the population
live either in estates or villages. We have taken this into
consideration and in the development projects each Grama Niladhari
division is being allocated with rupees one million for infrastructure
facilities.
This step is taken after a proper study of rural development and with
the auspices of the honourable President. There are 14,022 Grama Seva
divisions in the country. Money will be distributed equally, he said.
Under the newly introduced ‘Janasaba system’ people of the area have
to decide on their own development priorities.
Within another few months a graduate will be appointed as the
‘Janasaba Secretary’ to each and every Grama Seva division to monitor
the work.
This is going to be a new era in rural development, Minister
Amunugama said. |
