The Japanese Government will provide Rs 20.4 million for three
livelihood development projects in Trincomalee, Anuradhapura and
Hambantota districts for the benefit of the resettled and rural
communities. The grant contract was signed yesterday at the Japanese
Embassy between the Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi and
representatives of three local organisations who are engaged in social
and welfare services in the country.
Under the first project Rs. 10.5 million will be allocated in order
to construct a multi-purpose community development centre, agricultural
and drinking water wells and to implement income generating training in
Muttur and Seruwila Divisional Secretariat divisions in Trincomalee
District.
The first project which is called The Project for Conflict Affected
Community Uplift in Trincomalee District will be implemented by the
Association of Social Activities Development Sri Lanka (ASAD)
”This integrated project is expected to improve livelihood of 750
resettled families and enhance the welfare of the targeted communities,”
Ambassador Takahashi said.
