Professor joins the Bar

With the entry of Dr. W.M. Karunadasa, former Professor of International Relations, University of Colombo, to legal practice.

Having read the International Law under Prof. Derret of School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (1978-80) under Masters Degree Program, he obtained further training in International Law at Jawaharlal Nehru University of India and several prestigious Universities in the United States. “International Law of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law” authored by Prof. Karunadasa is widely used by University students.

He is product of Peradeniya University (1964-68) who stands as the only multi-disciplinarian trained in History, Law and International Affairs. Dr. Karunadasa is an old boy of G/Dodanduwa Piyaratana Maha Vidyalaya and G/Kalegana Piyatissa Maha Vidyalaya.


Police Seva Vanitha Unit Fund raiser

Police Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a special musical show recently to raise funds for the unit. The musical show Pethum Didulana Reyak - 2 held at the BMICH, Colombo with several singers and spectators participating.

According to Police Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs.Anoma Goonetileke, the unit has taken steps to carry out various projects and programs for the police officers, both disabled, departed and retired officers and their families. The unit has already set up 37 sub units countrywide to carry out its services more effectively.

The unit has planned to build houses for 15 eligible recipients.

The Police Seva Vanitha Unit selected poor schools through its sub units and distributed books, school bags etc among the schoolchildren.

The schools had been selected from several areas including Ratnapura, Kalutara, Panadura and Chilaw.

The unit has already conducted several medical camps countrywide for police officers.

Apart from those services the unit has made a large number of donations to various individuals, organizations and institutions belonging to the Police Department and common society, she added.
