Safe drinking water project
Safe water will be made available to 58,500 people in the Polonnaruwa
district by the Polonnaruwa Water Supply Scheme under the Township
Infrastructure Development Project in 2011.
The project is funded by the Asian Development bank, (ADB) through
the Government on the Secondary Towns and Rural Community based Water
Supply and Sanitary Project. The Polonnaruwa Water Supply Project is one
of the urban water supply schemes to be implemented under this project.
Sanken Lanka (Pvt) Ltd in association with Hyundai Engineering
Company Ltd. as Sanken Hyundai JV signed a contract with the National
Water supply and Drainage Board on January 26, 2009 at the National
Water Supply and Drainage Board Head Office in Ratmalana to construct
the Polonnaruwa Water Supply Project comprising a raw water transmission
main treatment plant, treated water plant and head works on a design and
build basis.
A group comprising Ranjith Gunatilake (Managing Director, Sanken
Lanka Rohana Wannigama Deputy General Manager Sanken Lanka and Vipula
Gunasekera, Project Manager, Sanken Lanka visited South Korea to see the
Hyundai Engineering Head Office and the ongoing projects in Korea as
part of the joint venture.
They were welcomed at the Seoul Head office by the Chairman of
Hyundai Engineering with senior officials.
