Fire guts two transformers at Inginiyagala power station

Two transformers were completely gutted when a fire broke out at the Inginiyagala Power Station due to a technical fault yesterday. According to Power and Energy Ministry sources, the power supply was temporarily disconnected to prevent the fire from spreading to other sections in the station.

These transformers were about to be discarded from the power station as they were obsolete, the sources said. A tent erected by the engineers adjacent to the transformers to facilitate the mechanics engaged in the repairing of the transformers was also destroyed in the fire.

The Sri Lanka Air Force Ampara base despatched two fire engines to douse the fire with the assistance of the Police and the Army.
