Over to you Mayoress Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia MC
Stray dogs in Ratmalana, particularly in the Sirimal Uyana area, have
multiplied by leaps and bounds. Several residents including the writer,
have been bitten, and even the local private doctors have refused to
treat
them. They are referred to the Colombo South Hospital, Kalubowila, which
is short of drugs to treat them.
The dog comes behind you, bites you and before you say ‘cock robin’,
runs away, so much so, you have no chance of sending its head to the
Medical Research Institute to test it for rabies.
The former Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council had a dog-cart,
which went round catching stray dogs, but now nothing is being done to
arrest the stray dog population.
As the President has now prohibited the killing of dogs, the writer
hopes that the Mayoress of Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council
devises some means of immunising stray dogs to save the residents from
the deadly disease called rabies.
Then what about the mosquito menace? The spreading of malathion,
which has been abandoned by the MC should be re-started without further
delay.
All types of mosquitoes, in swarms they come
Small ones swiftly and large ones with a hum
To sting our bodies, though we apply bayrum
Making us suffer till thy kingdom come!
