Presidential Secretary sets example

COLOMBO: Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga has decoded to forego the Rs.15,000 allowance paid to Secretaries and reduce his fuel allowance.

In line with austerity measures being introduced by the Government, all Ministers have already agreed to a reduction of their salaries by 10 per cent.

The Presidential Secretary will also donate 50 per cent of his month’s salary for Government coffers. Presidential Secretariat sources said this would inspire other Government officials to practice such measures to reduce fuel costs and Government expenditure.
