Kandy out to avenge revenge

Kandy Sports Corr.

The defending Caltex League Champions, Kandy Sports Club will go all out to avenge their first round defeat when they take on the Sri Lanka Army in their Caltex 'A' Division second round league rugby match to be played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on Sunday July 25 at 5 p.m.

Kandy SC lost the first match by a single digit in Colombo and they will make use of this match to settle this score at Nittawela. Kandy is playing well at the moment and look set to retain the title.

Since that defeat in the hands of the soldiers Kandy has beaten CH & FC, CR & FC, Havelocks SC and the Police SC and the last two which were second round matches by comfortable margins.

Kandy SC will go into this match without their line out specialist Neranjan Ranasinghe who received a deep cut below the eye in the match against the Police which required three stitches but yet he played on and got his injury attended only after the match.

Play maker Nalaka Weerakkody has still not recovered from his shoulder injury and is unlikely to play. But skipper Radhika Hettiarachchi who missed the last two games will be back in the team and will add more thrust to the back division.

Sri Lanka Army though defeating Kandy SC in the first round match has been performing in patches and are out of contention for the title.

Herathge Karunaratne too is unlikely to play in this match after he was shown the red card in their match against CR & FC and his absence should weaken the pack.

On the brighter side of Kandy SC their Fijian No. 8 Perceii Nassawe has at last struck form when he scored a hat-trick of tries and was found to be aggressive. Their new recruit West Samoan Uaealasi Faatauau has displayed good form.

Though essentially a centre but performed well manning the last line of defence. He is also a good place kicker.
