Bourse creates all time record:

Colombo best perfoming stock market in Asia

The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) surpassed all previous levels to reach an all-time high at the close of trading yesterday. The ASPI reached 1,440.65 recording a growth of 35.6 per cent for the year making it the fourth best performing stock market globally and the best performing market in Asia.

Anura denies Karuna link

Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike yesterday totally rejected press reports that he had accompanied LTTE breakaway faction leader Karuna Amman to Singapore. This sensational story is utterly and absolutely false and deserves contemptuous disregard, Minister Bandaranaike said in a statement issued from Beijing, where he is on an official visit.

JHU joins Govt. in opposing TNA MP's statement

The nine Bhikku MPs of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) yesterday threw in their lot with the Government in opposing the statement made by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna District Parliamentarian S. Gajendran on Tuesday which was expunged from the Hansard due to its inflammatory nature.

Security and Disciplinary Committee appointed:

J'pura University to re-open on July 28

The Sri Jayawardhanapura University will reopen on July 28, the Ministry of Education said yesterday. The University was closed on June 6 following the death of final year student Sampath Bandara in a clash between two student factions. Bandara was stabbed to death.

Jaffna library corner stone returned to rightful place

Soon after Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva laid the foundation stone for the new Jaffna library on July 14,it mysteriously disappeared. The corner stone of Jaffna literature has been acknowledged as the public library with tomes and tomes of historical documents.
