Chamila to receive house from President

The Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Ministry, on
the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will provide a house
worth Rs. five million to Jagath Chamila, who was awarded the best actor
at the New York City International Film festival, Construction,
Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal
Weerawansa said.
The house will be provided under Jana Sevana National Housing and
Settlement Development Drive of the Mahinda Chinthana future vision of
the President.
The ownership of the house will be handed over to Chamila by Minister
Weerawnsa tomorrow. The house is located on the ground floor of the
newly constructed flats at Moratuwa, Soysapura.
Jagath Chamila has won the Best Actor's award at the New York City
International Film Festival for his role in Priyankara Vittanachchi's
film Sam's Story . Four other actors from US, Denmark, Cuba and Canada
were nominated for the award.
The film Sam's Story is based on the critically acclaimed book of the
same name written by Capt. Elmo Jayawardena that won the Gratiaen Prize
in 2001.
The story is woven around 'Sam', the protagonist, who is a poor,
mentally challenged boy from a Sri Lankan village. |
