Ramadan fast begins

Muslims in Sri Lanka began the Ramadan fast yesterday after the new moon of the Holy Month of Ramadan was sighted last evening, the Colombo Grand Mosque announced.

The decision to commence the month long fast was taken at a meeting attended by Muslim religious leaders at the Grand Mosque late yesterday.
