The media unit of Nalanda College was initiated in 1986 with the
prospective of fulfilling the growing need to establish a strong media
tradition in Sri Lankan school culture. As a result, it has been able to
crown the school media sector throughout its history of 27 years.
Manifesting its leadership in school mass communication, the unit has
organized ‘Sambhasha'- interschool announcing competition, in both
Sinhala and English media, which will be held on July 13.
Started with ‘Ecstasy of Nalanda'- the first ever broadcasting
mission of the college in 1996, the record accounts for 13 such projects
which includes ‘Nalandasara'- a web radio broadcast in 2006 that covered
the realm of the whole world.
As a pioneering media unit, it managed to televise the first ever
school television broadcasting effort in Sri Lanka in 2005 which was
extended to six such projects all around including the 2008 broadcast
using the chrome technology and the 2012 effort with IPTV technology
which were groundbreaking initiatives when it comes to school arena.
Sambhasha was first organized in 2006 which was organized in line
with a workshop on technological aspects related to media which was
glistened by the presence of media experts. Sambhasha was continued
incessantly from then onwards, bringing the best of amateur journalists
who are fated to lead country's journalism in future. |
