Five sentenced for murder

Five men accused for being members of unlawful assembly for killing a man aged 42, a resident of Konketiya Buttala, were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by Moneragala Provincial High Court Judge Gihan H Kulatunga on Thursday.

The first and fifth accused were sentenced to 15 years and 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 25,000 fine. The judge ordered each to pay Rs 75,000 as compensation to the victim's wife. The second, third and fourth accused were also imposed five years rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 25,000 fine. They were ordered to pay 75,000 as compensation to the victim's wife.
