The second NSA-level (National
Security Advisor) Meeting on Trilateral Cooperation on
Maritime Security between India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka
was held at the Defence Ministry yesterday. Defence and
Urban Development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa led the Sri
Lankan delegation. National Security Advisor to the Indian
Prime Minister Shivshanker Menon and Maldivian Defence and
National Security Minister Mohamed Nazim headed the Indian

Plantation Industries Minister
Mahinda Samarasinghe, being greeted by Organizing Committee
menbers of the Sial Brazil Trade Exhibition in Sao Paulo
during his recent visit to Latin America. Top officials of
the Sial France and Sial Brazil commended the role played by
the minister to promote Ceylon Tea in an untapped region
which was traditionally dominated by coffee. It was a useful
exploratory tour, successfully completed by the minister in
an attempt to diversify markets for Ceylon Tea, or reduce
the dependance on the Middle East and West Asian regions
which absorbs more than
50 percent of the exports. |

The Embassy of the United Arab
Emirates donated 7.5 tons of dates to the needy Muslims in
Sri Lanka, to be used during the month of Ramadan. Here

The Alliance Francaise de Kandy in
association with the Assistant High Commission of India in
Kandy and the Hindu Culture Centre organized a dance
performance of Celine Pradeu Kangasabai at the Hindu Culture
Centre, Kandy recently. Celine Pradeu Kangasabai is an
Indian born French choreographer who performs fusion dance
of Bharathanatiyam with a modern dance style. The chief
quest was Assistant High Commissioner’s office Second

The passing out parade of 369 Police
Officers who completed a one year training, was held under
the auspices of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa at the Police
Training College in Kalutara recently. Forty four Police
Officers were Tamil nationals from the North and East.
