Committee to probe drug purchasing, tender malpractices

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena appointed a high-level special
committee to probe corruption and malpractices taking place in
connection with purchasing drugs and offering tenders and building
contracts, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
The spokesman said the committee is chaired by Minister Sirisena. The
other members of the committee are Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal
Jayatilleke, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala,
National Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Authority Chairman Dr. Hemantha
Beneragama and Health Ministry legal officer Riyaza Ahmed.
Minister Sirisena instructed health officials to blacklist companies
violating the agreements, the spokesman said. The Health Ministry
received several proposals, complaints and accusations in connection
with various parties and persons affected by tender offering procedures
for drug purchasing, building construction etc.
The violation of agreements cause drug shortages and congestion at
state hospitals without new buildings, he added. |
