CIS, Kandy Branch in 65-51 win over Azar

Colombo International School, Kandy Branch took sweet revenge on Azar
College, Akurana by defeating them 65-51 in the finals to became
champions of the Central Zone Boys ‘A’ Division Basketball Championship
organised by the Sri Lanka Basketball Association and assisted by the
Kandy District Basketball Association played at Kingswood College
Courts, Kandy. At half time the winners led 37-30.Schools from Badulla,
Matale, Kurunegala and Kandy competed in this four day Championship.

Azar College, Akurana are the current Central Province Schools
Champions and they beat the same Colombo International School team in
the finals to become champions.
But on this day Colombo International School Cagers put up a very
much improved display under the guidance of their coach D.S. Pingamage
to average their earlier defeat.
There was no doubt of the Convincing manner in which the champions
achieved victory.
They led from the start and maintained a very clear lead to the end
giving their opponents no chance to stage recovery.
The main contributors for Colombo International School were Lahiru
Karaliyadde 18 points and Azan Manzil 15 points. For Azar College the
top Scorers were Mohamed Aazir 22 points and Mohamed Azain 11 points.
The following won the individual awards.
Best Offensive Player – Azan Manzil (CIS)
Best Defensive Player – Azim Azlan (Azar College)
Most Valuable Player – Lahiru Karaliyadda (CIS)
Balton Fernando and S. Perera umpired.
St. Anne’s College won the consolation finals to clinch the third
place. |
