Nadeeka books Moscow trip:

Sri Lanka 14th out of 45 countries

Sri Lanka finished 14th among 45 Asian nations, winning two silver and a bronze medal at the 20th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships which marked its conclusion at the Shiv Chathrapathi Stadium in Pune last evening. In addition to the silver medals won by Nadeeka Lakmali and Sachith Maduranga in the mens and womens javelin throw events, the Lankan 4x400m relay team clocked 4 minutes 04.92 seconds to win the bronze medal. The Lankan mens relay team had the services of Chanaka Dulan Priyashantha, Dilan Aloka, Kasun Senevirathne and Anjana Madushan. This is also the first Lankan relay team to win a medal at a relay event at AAC after 2007. Other athletes who represented Sri Lanka yesterday, failed to live upto expectations .

The women’s 4x400m relay team, consisted of Sonali Merryl, Deepika Sandamali, R M U Rathnakumari and Chandrika Subhashini finished fifth in the final, clocking 3 minutes 39.54 seconds.

Silver medalist Nadeeka Lakmali also qualifying for the world Athletics Chamionships to be held in Moscow. The javelin throw silver medal that Lakmali won on Sunday is also her third AAC medal. A significant fact is that the coach of both silver medalists, Sachith and Lakmali, is A J Rodrigo.
