Sonam wants to play 'Tragedy Queen'

If there ever is a biopic made on the legendary actress Meena Kumari, Sonam Kapoor would love the opportunity to play the role.

The 28-year-old actor is fascinated by real characters with some flaws. Meena Kumari who was known as the 'Tragedy Queen' was one of the most talented and successful heroines of her time. Sonam who is known for playing versatile roles in movies such as Delhi 6, Aisha, Mausam and I Hate Luv Storys would now love to play the part of Meena Kumari who had a very tragic life.

"I want to play any one who has a nice character arch and is flawed, I would love to play such roles. It is because they are human. I am very flawed myself... I want to play a role of a real person," said Sonam.

Meena Kumari was called the 'Tragic Queen' for a reason. She gained recognition for her grief-stricken roles in movies such as Chhoti Bahu and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. These performances were praised greatly and are remembered for years. However, apart from this she was also known for her own personal tragic life that was defaced with alcoholism, troubled relationships, and her death from liver cirrhosis.

In the last six years, Sonam has worked in about a dozen of films, but it is her recent release Raanjhanaa, in which she plays a simple girl from Benaras. Her performance in this movie is called her breakthrough performance. One India
