Sri Lanka’s 400m record holder Chandrika Subhashini has qualified for
the 400m finals securing seventh place in the semi-final at the ongoing
fourth Asian Athletics Championship in Pune, India. The 400m finals is
scheduled at 7.15pm Sri Lankan time today.
Twenty-six-year old Sri Lankan sprinter recorded the seventh best
time after yesterday’s semi-finals. Subashini timed 54.16 seconds in the
semi-finals while India’s Puwamma became the best timer as she finished
in 54.16 secs and Jose Anu Mariam came third clocking 53.66 secs. “I had
to reduce my speed at the end as I ran faster in the first 200 metres.
I felt inconvenience as I suffered from Dengue fever few weeks ago. I
expect to win a medal in the finals tomorrow,” said Subashini, who had
recorded her best time of 52.36secs in Korat, Thailand in 2008.
