Four member gang arrested

The Meegahathenna Police arrested four under world gang members who tried to kidnap two youths who had had failed to pay back a sum of Rs 1.6 million being the balance money from the original amount to send their relatives to Australia by boat. Four members had already been sent to Australian with a promise to pay back sum of Rs 2.5 million. As they had paid only Rs 900,000. and the balance payment had not been paid back by their family members.

The mastermind behind the kidnap, a resident of Kalutara, who had sent people to Australia illegally. The four youths who were sent to Australia on condition that they pay the balance once they reached Australia, had failed to do so. A mobile police patrol on night duty had stopped a vehicle on suspicion and found the two youths. The suspects who had tried to escape police custody were arrested after a long chase.

Matugama Police is investigating.
