Ministry aims at IT to serve women, children

The Women Affairs and Child Development Ministry launched a programme to train field officers of the ministry in Information Technology parallel to the E-Government Policy programme.

Plans are under way to build IT units at the Divisional Secretariat level to streamline the services to women and children.

The first IT unit was opened attached to the Mihintale DS office by Minister Karalliyadda recently.

The minister said "incorrect data and information regarding widows and destitute children in the North and East during the war period were transmitted globally by irresponsible Non Government Organizations by tarnishing the image of the government. Establishing DS divisional level data bases will prevent such unwarranted acts in future," the minister said.

The minister appreciated the media for exposing child abuse cases and violence against women.
