Power pirates fined Rs 572,815

Fines totalling Rs 572,815 were imposed by the Puttalam District Court on five individuals who attempted to defraud the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) by manipulating their electricity meters.

This attempt to defraud the CEB was discovered during an inspection conducted by the Ceylon Electricity Board Special Squad on June 9. The suspects who are residents of Thalawila and Anavaasal in the Kalpitiya area were produced before the Puttalam District Court and fined sums of Rs 124,202, Rs 134,202, Rs 110,042, Rs 175,336 and Rs 29,033 respectively.

The CEB Special Squad was led by S I Ananda on the instructions of SL Senaratne.
