Mahinda Chinthana, based on deep-rooted SLFP traditions - Pavithra

Whosoever belongs to Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) that shall get sidetracked from the party's all important policy to deliver the nation from imperialist oppression, betrays the party's tradition and political foundation, says Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

She said, if somebody, perchance, should go amiss from the party's deep rooted policy against imperial dominance, it is tantamount to betrayal of the party's principles. “Such actions are against the principles of S W R D Bandaranaike, the founder of the party (SLFP),” she said.

Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi was speaking at the executive meeting of the SLFP on Monday. She said, there is no turning back from the path chosen by the SLFP. President Mahinda Rajapaksa freed the country from terrorism to free the nation conscious of the party's policy and tradition. “He achieved what the SLFP has always stood for, to gain political and economic freedom and independence for the country and the nation,” she said.

“The SLFP policy by S W R D Bandaranaike was to be carried forward by Mrs Bandaranike. Mahinda Chinthana is there now based on the same principles and policies of the party,” the Minister said.

“As it is impossible to move along with the exact same policy of Bandaranaike, several changes have been made to suit the modern political and social environment as regards to the Mahinda Chinthana,” she said. “There is no turning back from the Mahinda Chinthana policy, which is the basis for forward march of the country, which is based on deep-rooted SLFP traditions,” she added.
