Kotmale Gamini Dissanayake Reservoir sluice gates opened

The water level of the Kotmale Gamini Dissanayake Reservoir has risen rapidly due to the recent heavy rains. Its sluice gates have been opened to release excess water to the Kotmale Oya, Mahaweli Authority sources stated in a press release yesterday.

The release also warned people resident in areas below the Kotmale dam to be alert to the situation and requested people living on the banks of the Mahaweli Ganga from Ulapana up to Polgolla not to venture into the Mahaweli Ganga for bathing or any other purposes until the water recedes.
