IQSSL to enhance professional training

The Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL), the chartered professional body solely representing the Quantity Surveying (QS) professionals in the country remains committed to offering the best and most respected professional training in the quantity surveying education .

IQSSL President Hemantha Aponso

IQSSL President Hemantha Aponso told Daily News Business that there is a huge demand for high caliber Sri Lankan quantity surveyors from all over the world, specially from countries such as Qatar, Oman and Dubai. The Institute currently has a membership of over 2,500 of which 1000 quantity surveyors are working in the Middle East. QS is the highest foreign currency earner in the country when compared to other professions.

Today ,several institutions which do not have formal educational accreditation are currently engaged in training quantity surveyors and therefore , IQSSL will initiate an accreditation system to regulate the Quantity Surveying qualifications being offered by various institutions in the country.

From the IQSSL inception in 1982, the institute was working in close association with various agencies to provide Quantity Surveying education to Sri Lankan students with a minimum cost.

IQSSL has introduced a wide range of professional courses in the field of QS and the Institute through its founding professional members pioneered the Degree Course at the University of Moratuwa and Certificate Course Quantity Surveying ( National Certificate in Technology Quantity Surveying )

Commenting on the future growth aspirations of IQSSL, Aponso said IQSSL is seeking the government support to establish its own building premises to provide proper education and training facilities for Sri Lankan students and QS practitionerswith a minimum cost and it has plans to take the QS professional level examinations to Galle and Kandy Districts in the near future.

The Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka was incorporated as a limited liability company under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 on 18th April 1986.

In 2007, the Institute was incorporated by the Act of Parliament as the Act No. 20 of 2007. The Act not only conferred the Institute the statutory status as a chartered body but also elevated the Institute to the unique position of being the only Chartered professional body solely representing the Quantity Surveying professionals.
