IQSSL to enhance professional training

The Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL), the chartered
professional body solely representing the Quantity Surveying (QS)
professionals in the country remains committed to offering the best and
most respected professional training in the quantity surveying education
.

IQSSL President Hemantha Aponso told Daily News Business that there
is a huge demand for high caliber Sri Lankan quantity surveyors from all
over the world, specially from countries such as Qatar, Oman and Dubai.
The Institute currently has a membership of over 2,500 of which 1000
quantity surveyors are working in the Middle East. QS is the highest
foreign currency earner in the country when compared to other
professions.
Today ,several institutions which do not have formal educational
accreditation are currently engaged in training quantity surveyors and
therefore , IQSSL will initiate an accreditation system to regulate the
Quantity Surveying qualifications being offered by various institutions
in the country.
From the IQSSL inception in 1982, the institute was working in close
association with various agencies to provide Quantity Surveying
education to Sri Lankan students with a minimum cost.
IQSSL has introduced a wide range of professional courses in the
field of QS and the Institute through its founding professional members
pioneered the Degree Course at the University of Moratuwa and
Certificate Course Quantity Surveying ( National Certificate in
Technology Quantity Surveying )
Commenting on the future growth aspirations of IQSSL, Aponso said
IQSSL is seeking the government support to establish its own building
premises to provide proper education and training facilities for Sri
Lankan students and QS practitionerswith a minimum cost and it has plans
to take the QS professional level examinations to Galle and Kandy
Districts in the near future.
The Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka was incorporated as a
limited liability company under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 on 18th
April 1986.
In 2007, the Institute was incorporated by the Act of Parliament as
the Act No. 20 of 2007. The Act not only conferred the Institute the
statutory status as a chartered body but also elevated the Institute to
the unique position of being the only Chartered professional body solely
representing the Quantity Surveying professionals. |
