Kelaniya University Science Faculty academic activities begin tomorrow

Kelaniya University Science Faculty academic activities will recommence tomorrow.

The faculty was temporarily closed following a clash at the Seewali Mawatha Hostel on June 7.


Media conference in Puttalam

Awareness programmes on Sri Lanka's development process have been organised for provincial journalists by the Government Information Department.

The Puttalam district conference will be held at the Puttalam District Secretariat tomorrow at 9 a.m. Mass Media and Information Ministry Secretary Dr Charitha Herath will participate.

Higher Institute for Legal Education director D.M. Karunaratne will address journalists in the Puttalam district on 'Media policies, laws and ethics for a better media culture'.

Puttalam District Secretary Kingsley Fernando and University of Kelaniya Mass Communications Department lecturer Prof Ariyarathna Athugala will also speak.


Corporal dies in accident

A Corporal died and a Lance Corporal hospitalised following an accident in Moragahahena on Saturday night. The two were returning after a musical show in Horana town, when the motorcycle they were riding, crashed into a bus in Moragahahena.

The deceased was identified as Jagath Kumara, 35, a father of two and a resident of Akuressa.


Australian HC opens new jetty

“Thirty two thousand families are dependent on the fishing industry in Passaiyoor. The Australian government has realized that fishing industry provides the wherewithal for those under poverty line. The Australian government in collaboration with the IOM organization had provided funds for the expansion of Passaiyoor pier,” Australian High Commissioner Robyn Mudie said. The Passaiyoor jetty has been rehabilitated at a cost of Rs. 58 million.

Sinhala version of Judge C. G. Weeramantry's 'Islamic Jurisprudence: An International Perspective’ will be launched today at 5.00 pm at the BCIS/ BMICH by Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum, chaired by former Foreign Secretary H. M. G. S. Palihakkara. former Colombo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Savithri Gunasekera will be the chief guest. The Attorney General Palitha Fernando, PC will be the guest speaker.
