Events to mark World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought held

The Saviya Development Foundation (SDF), has organized a series of
activities including seminars, workshops, interactive educational
sessions among school children and exhibitions to create awareness about
risks of drought and water scarcity as aspired by the United Nations
Convention to combat Desertification (UNCCD) to mark the World Day to
Combat Desertification and Drought that fell on June 17,

Accordingly, an Exhibition of National Arts and Posters on - "Don't
let our future dry up", the global slogan of 2013 World Day to Combat
Desertification and Drought was held at Galle Town Hall recently.
The exhibition was inaugurated under the patronage of Galle Acting
Mayor Kelum Senavirathne. Galle Additional District Secretary Malani
Lokupothagama, Agriculture Ministry Secretary Dr. Hemantha Wijewardane,
Etisalat Lanka Galle Branch Manager Avera Ranasinghe, Chairman, Saviya
Foundation Advisory Committee Dr. Winston de Silva, SDF Coordinating
Officer Rupika Rajakaruna, Lalitha Rasaputra and several others of the
area participated. |
