Hambantota hospital construction begins

The Health Ministry yesterday commenced the construction of the new
government hospital in Hambantota district under the patronage of
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.

The 650 bed hospital will be built at a cost of Rs. 7 billion with
financial assistance from the Netherlands government.
The new building will be a 10 storied building with a land area of
35,000 square feet.
The hospital will be equipped with all modern facilities, a Health
Ministry spokesman said.
The hospital will have an Out Patients' Department, an Emergency
Treatment Unit, surgical theatres, Intensive Care Units, a Judicial
Medical Unit, a Pharmacy, Drug Storage and laboratory facilities.
A cafeteria, a blood bank and hostels for resident medical
professionals will also be constructed in the premises.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa had inspected the plans of the new
Hambantota hospital at a brief ceremony organized to inaugurate the
construction of the hospital.
Health Minister Maitripala Sirisena, Disaster Management Minister
Mahinda Amaraweera and Hambanthota District MP Namal Rajapaksa also
participated. |
