Second National Mosquito Eradication Week begins today

The second National Mosquito Eradication Week for 2013 will commence
today. It will be held until July 7, a Health Ministry spokesman said
yesterday.
Senior officers attached to the Health Ministry, Defence and Urban
Development Ministry, Environment Ministry, Local Government Ministry
and Education Ministry launched the Mosquito Eradication Week under the
guidance of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
The inter-ministerial committee has planned to hold several
programmes islandwide in line with the Mosquito Eradication Week. Plans
are underway to hold awareness programmes and shramadana campaigns to
identify and destroy mosquito breeding places throughout the country,
the spokesman said.
Security Forces, Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Civil Defence
Force personnel will assist in the eradication of mosquito breeding
places, he said.
Health Ministry officials urged the public to keep their surroundings
free from dengue breeding places.
Inter-ministerial Committee chairman, Health Ministry Secretary Dr.
Nihal Jayathilake will handover a special situation report on Dengue to
the Presidential Dengue Task Force and the Cabinet. |
