Minnoli SC and Rangers SC emerge champions

Minnoli Sports Club, Vinayagapuram emerged champions and bagged the
Jeyamalini Challenge Cup by beating Udaya Sooriyan Sports Club,
Thirukkovil by six goals to five in penalty shootout at the soccer
tournament finals concluded at Udaya Sooriyan Sports Club ground,
Thirukkovil recently.
The tournament was organized by the Udaya Sooriyan Sports Club in
memory of Late Yogendra Jeyamalini and eight clubs teams from the
district participated in this tournament. A keen contest was witnessed
at the final as both teams were fighting hard to overcome each other. As
a result no goals were recorded until the final whistle was blown. Even
during the extra time none of the teams were able to score a goal.
Finally the winners were decided on penalty shootouts where Minnoli
Sports Club defeated hosting Udaya Sooriyan SC 6-5.
Meanwhile, Rangers Sports Club, Thambiluvil beat Faina Sports Club,
Addalaichenai by 24 runs in the limited five overs seven-a-side cricket
tournament final conducted by Udaya Soorityan Sports Club for the
Jeyanthira Challenge Cup.
The prize giving was presided by Udya Sooriyan Sports Club president
Y.Jeyachandran and Digamadulla District Member of Parliament
P.H.Piyasena participated as the chief-guest and gave away the trophies
to the winners and the runner-ups.
Thirukkovil Divisional Secretary M.Gopalaratnam, Samurdhi officer and
officers of the Thirukkovil Army Camp were also present at the ceremony. |
