Int’l Coconut Day in Kurunegala, Kilinochchi

Arrangements have been made to celebrate International Coconut Day in Kurunegala and Kilinochchi in the first week of September under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Minister Jagath Pushpakumara said.

The Asia-Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) named September 2 as International Coconut Day. Over 6,000 coconut cultivators, industrialists, exporters and foreign representatives will participate in the International Coconut Day celebrations.

Prizes and awards will be presented to selected winners of several categories such as the Best Coconut Cultivator, Best Coconut Nursery Cultivator, Best Coconut Exporter and Best Coconut Related Industrialist at the celebrations. Arrangements will be made by the Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Ministry to strengthen the Kapruka Purawara and Kaprukai Parapurai programmes.
