Two die in accident

Two persons died when a three wheeler they were travelling, collided head on with a SLTB bus at Ranwala on the Kandy-Colombo road on Wednesday night.

The three wheeler driver was also injured in the incident. The victims were identified as W P Dilipa Abeysekara, 21, and D N Wijesuriya, 21, of Matale. Kegalle Police are investigating.


Raid on hooch den

Nawagamuwa Police on Wednesday arrested a suspect and seized 35 cans of illicit liquor, goda barrels fixed with electric heaters and another electric heater when they raided an illicit brewery in Ranala. A stock of illicit liquor was also seized.

Meanwhile, Wennappuwa Police commenced a search operation to arrest a suspect who fled when the Police raided an illicit brewery near Gin Oya, Wennappuwa the same day. Police seized 10 barrels of illicit liquor at the location.


Two arrested with loot

Two suspects wanted in connection with a series of house breaking incidents in several towns, were arrested with part of the loot by Divulapitiya Police on Wednesday.

Police took into custody five lap top computers, digital cameras, jewellery, television sets and electrical appliances stolen by them after breaking into houses in Divulapitiya, Giriulla, Warakapola and Minuwangoda, The suspects were produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate's Court yesterday.


Suspect with heroin remanded

A suspect arrested with 12.200 grammes of heroin was remanded until June 27 when produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court. He was arrested in Attidiya by the STF attached to the Kalubowila camp.


Deadly fall

A passenger seriously injured when he fell from a private bus at Fort, succumbed to the injuries at the Colombo National Hospital. The victim was identified as S Chandrasekaram, 60. Fort Police arrested the bus driver.


Explosives seized

STF officers attached to the Ampara Camp seized a stock of explosives and accessories in a sack in a jungle at Kella in Uhana on Tuesday.

Acting on information that a group of persons were attempting to explode a rock with the intention of finding treasure , the STF conducted a raid and found the sack with explosives abandoned by the suspects.

Ampara Police are investigating.
