Matale Thomians beat Maliyadewa

St Thomas College, Matale scored their first ever win over Maliyadewa College, Kurunegala, when they defeated them by five wickets in their schools under 17 division one cricket tournament match played at the Thomian grounds, Matale over the weekend.

According to the cricket Master-In-Charge of St Thomas College, Charaka Udupihille, they have never before registered a win over Maliyadewa College in an under 17 cricket match.

The Devans put into bat by the Thomians made a reasonably good total of 238 for 9 in their 50 over, with Damith Perera 57 and Keshan Herath 50 being the main contributors.

The Thomians were set a victory target of 239 in 50 overs went for the run-hunt from the start and scored off the runs required in 42.5 overs.

Nimesh Jayamaha scored an aggressive 78 with five sixes and five fours which laid the foundation for victory.

Maliyadewa College 238 for 9 in 50 overs (Damith Perera 57, Keshan Herath 50, Prabash Keppetipola 44, Nushan Senaviratne 3 for 30, Chameera Gunasinghe 3 for 37).

St Thomas College 239 for 5 in 42.5 overs (Mayantha Aluwihare 45, Nimesh Jayamaha 78, Pandula Udupihilla 36 not out, chathura Dilshan 34, Prabash Keppetipola 2 for 35, Dilshan Collere 2 for 44).
